Simple and Cool 3D Easy graphic creations with Cinema 4D By Ko Maruyama One of my first tutorials was "No Really, it's just a cube", which outlines how easy it is to create a graphic from a cube in Cinema 4D, but there are so many other ways to develop 3D background treatments.

This first installment is going to be about extrusions.   By default, extruding polygonal geometry can still be operated by the hotkeys "D" and "I" for extrude and inner extrude, respectively.

1. Start out with a cube, and make it editable by using the hotkey "C" (or selecting Functions->Make Editable).

2. Select the polygon tool, and choose all 6 polygons of your cube (cmd-A or manually select them in the view window).

3. Select the Extrude Inner tool (I).  Note: By default, extruding polygonal geometry can still be operated by the hotkeys "D" and "I" for extrude and extrude inner, respectively.  Make sure that "Preserve Groups" is unchecked.  It may be checked the first time you use this tool.

Once the tool is selected, you can use your mouse to interactively scale your inner extrude and regular extrusions by clicking and dragging anywhere outside the model, effecting all of the selected polygons. (Alternatively, you can input a specific value into the "Offset" parameter).

4. Select the Extrude tool (D), and similarly - use your mouse to interactively scale the extrusion.

Continuing with this method of extrusions can yield some quickly-made interesting shapes to be used with the techniques outlined in the "No, Really" tutorial, or simply by themselves.

Here is one with the continued (Inner Extrude / Extrude) method used on the same cube, and two other images produced on a regular platonic object and on a cylinder.  No additional modelling.  These images were rendered without object lights or special cameras.
