Fran and Anthony Cosmo, guitarists for the mega-rock group Boston, recently added Sabine?s SWM7000 2.4 GHz Smart Spectrum wireless system to their sonic arsenal. The Cosmos? guitar tech, Chris Morrison, discovered the powerful wireless solution while working with the band Trapt, and hasn?t looked back since.
?I would say that I?m really impressed with the SWM7000,? states Morrison, who has also worked with former Commodore and solo sensation Lionel Richie. ?I was really anxious to try the Sabine wireless to see how it held up against the gear I used in the past, and I was pretty pleased.?
?The sound quality is what?s most important,? says Fran Cosmo. ?I can?t lose that crunch on my guitar, and with Sabine I still have it. That?s very important. The other great thing about this unit is that it sounds great from venue to venue.?
Boston is currently preparing for a tour that will take the multi-platinum band to China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii. Following the international trek, the group will look to film and release its first boxed DVD.
?I really hate having cords all over the stage,? continues Cosmo. ?We had tried using another wireless system, but it sounded terrible and it was killing our guitar sound. So then we got the Sabine in here and we didn?t lose that bottom end on the guitar and got better reception. The SWM7000 has made my life so much easier.?
Sabine?s new SWM7000 series utilizes a new scheme for transmission and reception that provides flat response from 20 Hz to 20 KHz, which is ideal for use with both voice and musical instruments. With 70 channels to choose from and the added bandwidth of this high-frequency range, a user can take advantage of all 70 at one time. In addition, by international agreement, the license-free 2.4 GHz band can be used anywhere in the world and it allows for extended range up to an astounding 100 meters.
In addition to the hardware, Sabine?s powerful software allows users to create custom EQ curves, use the RF scanner to scan the venue for any potential interference and view and edit all functions. Also included in the software is Microphone SuperModeling, which allows the user to easily emulate other popular microphones.
?I think the software is really easy to use and I got instant results,? continues Morrison. ?I could tell immediately if I had a good strength on my receiver or not, and I didn?t have any problems with the software; it loaded right into my PC.?
SWM7000 receivers come with Sabine's built-in Targeted Input Processing, which includes the FBX Feedback Exterminator, a compressor/limiter, an adaptive de-esser and a set of 10 parametric filters. FBX setup is easy and extremely fast and allows total freedom of movement without feedback. Sabine 2.4 GHz Wireless receivers give unparalleled versatility and sound, and the built-in dual NiMH battery charger gives virtually unlimited battery life.
SWM7000 wireless microphone systems are available in one- or two-channel models, with a choice of Audix (OM3 or OM5) or Voice Technologies capsules for the handheld transmitter, or lavalier, headworn or instrument pickup input for the beltpack transmitter.
